This is a complex issue across the country. Tennessee's pledge comes nearly two months after child care providers in 27 states and Washington, D.C., went on strike to push for better wages and broader benefits.

"We appreciate the Tennessee Department of Human Services' significant increase in child care reimbursement rates," said Quality Early Education President and CEO Blair Taylor. "This is a big step in the right direction and brings Tennessee's child care reimbursement assistance program closer to covering the true costs of quality child care, while making quality child care more accessible and affordable for skilled working families. It makes it cheaper."

This payment change will go directly to the supplier. Along with the payment change, TDHS will also waive co-payments for parents from August 1st to December 31st.
