Tennessee Army Bases - Military bases in Tennessee are not what you think. Of course, there is also an air force base and a navy base. But did you know there are two huge factories in the Volunteer State? In total, the DoD owns and operates eight installations in the state. Some are active and some are passive.
As you might expect, there is no naval base in Tennessee. Speaking of the Marines, why are some Corpsmen Marines and others not? Shockingly, the Navy has a base here. Tennessee Army Bases
Located in Tullahoma, Arnold AFB began when America entered World War II. It is home to the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC). The base remained active until 2009. Currently, it is primarily a space and aerodynamic test facility. AEDC is also testing rock and wind tunnels here. The two locations are connected by rail, and the facility's footprint spans 465 buildings.

Don't let the name fool you. Holston is not an employee of the Department of Defense. Instead, it is operated by BAE Systems. BAE won the contract from the Army in 1999, and will serve for 25 years. This means changes may be coming soon to Holston. Holston has been around since World War II, and its first mission was to create high explosives. Currently, it still produces all the explosives used by the Ministry of Defense and our partners.
McGee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Knoxville is a longtime military base in Tennessee. Currently, it is home to four active units. It is also home to a fighter squadron of the Air Defense Command. Initially, McGee provided security for the Atomic Energy Commission. It is the federal agency America established after World War II to regulate nuclear power. After President Truman signed the McMahon Atomic Energy Act in 1946, control of atomic energy was transferred from military to civilian hands. However, in 1974, AEK was abolished. Like Holston, the Milan Ordnance Depot and the subsidiary Wolf Creek Ordnance Plant are virtually all military bases in Tennessee. Milan creates ammunition for both small and large hands. This is where amplifiers and fuses are designed. However, unlike Holston, Milan is much closer to an Army base in Tennessee. However, the mission is clear - to create ammunition.

The Navy has a military base in Tennessee near Millington. It is located north of Memphis and employs about 7,500 people. It's crazy because Tennessee is definitely not a place most people think of when they think of Navy. Its large size makes it one of the largest military facilities in the country. Both international and US military units come here for training. In addition to the Naval Personnel Command, the 4th Naval Logistics Group is also located here.

The Army National Guard Barracks in Cookeville, Tennessee is a storage and transit facility for both troops and supplies. The Tennessee Army National Guard owns the installation. Stores weapons, vehicles and materials.
Barry Field is a support wing for the Department of Defense. That means this military base in Nashville, Tennessee, helps support the military in times of war. It dates back to before World War II, making it one of the oldest foundations in the state. The MQ-9 Reaper squadron calls Barry Field home. It is an unmanned support team.
